A11 Campaign
The A11 is to be dualled - it was announced on the 22nd October 2010 as part of the comprehensive spending review and again on the 22nd March 2011 after completing its final planning stages
The A11 is the major road artery connecting Norfolk with London , the South East and South Midlands .The nine mile stretch between Barton Mills and Thetford is the last remaining single carriageway section.This stretch suffers significant congestion, is an accident blackspot and is regarded as a significant barrier to the economic growth of Norfolk.
Shaping Norfolk ’s Future and partners have been successful in lobbying for the dualling of this stretch, and it was only one of only five road schemes in the country which have the green light from government as part of the comprehensie spending review.Independent research has shown the scheme has a 20-1 benefit to cost ratio, making it probably the best value for money road scheme in the country. Dualling the road would bring benefits to the Norfolk economy of more than £1.6bn, cut journey times at peak periods by up to 20 minutes, and reduce accidents.
